Shih Tzu Vs Other Dog Breeds

Shih Tzu dogs are one of the cutest dog breeds. They have a long, beautiful coat that is curly and soft. This breed comes in a wide variety of colors from light cream to deep gold and reds and blacks and silvers.

Their cute little eyes and noses, legs that seem too small for their body and big ears make them look like little teddy bears. They’re very lovable and affectionate, but they don’t like being left alone.

Most shih tzus will become destructive when you leave them home alone thus meaning your house might be destroyed by the time you get back if you leave this dog unattended for several hours or even minutes (it depends on the dog).

Shih Tzu Dogs and Health Problems

Shih Tzu dogs are healthy in general, but they can inherit some health problems like many other dog breeds. They can suffer from dental problems due to their crowded teeth and they usually need to be brushed regularly.

Their long coat is beautiful but it needs extra care; if you don’t brush it several times per week or take your Shih Tzu for grooming sessions then mats will form that can get tangled with the rest of the hair and cause skin irritation which might get infected.

Shih Tzus have a very flat nose so breathing can be uncomfortable sometimes. They’re not good swimmers because their legs are too short for them to stand on two legs while swimming, plus they might get cold very easily.

Shih Tzu Dogs and the Cold

The short legs and nose of this dog breed make them stand out among other dogs: they don’t like the cold weather and they might shiver even when the temperature is fairly high.

Their cute look, however, makes up for their awkwardness in cold weather! They’ll just look at you with those big eyes as if they’re asking you to warm them up or give them a blanket ๐Ÿ™‚ You can always put a sweater on your Shih Tzu to keep him/her warm during winter walks.

Shih Tzu Dogs and Seizures

This breed is also prone to seizures; they happen mostly because of low blood sugar levels which causes weakness, disorientation and loss of balance. But if you keep your Shih Tzu healthy, don’t skip meals and make sure he/she gets enough exercise then chances of having seizures will be low.

Shih Tzu Dogs and Shedding

A lot of dog breeds shed, but this doesn’t mean that the fur they lose will cover your whole house! You just need to brush them regularly to remove most hair that they would otherwise leave all over the place.

Plus, their fur is very soft so it’s nice to touch ๐Ÿ™‚ On top of everything else, this breed is very easy to maintain: groomers love working on their coats and you might also consider shaving or trimming part of their coat sometimes because this will help decrease shedding.

You just need to be extra careful while shaving your dog because their skin is very sensitive. Shih Tzus are bred in many colors, but some breeders think that black or dark brown dogs look better than the rest (they also cost more).

Shih Tzu Dogs and Different Colored Puppies

You might get one of these interesting colors when you decide to adopt a shih tzu: cream, gold, red, white, fawn and apricot.

But it’s also possible that your puppy will have different colored fur on his/her ears or tail; this has nothing to do with the color that he/she will eventually grow into – it can’t predict what color your puppy will be when fully grown.

Shih Tzus are very lovable, but this breed is not for everyone.

They need a lot of attention because they don’t like being left alone which means their separation anxiety can get worse if you don’t give them enough love and play with them every day. If you have the time to groom your shih tzu regularly, make sure he/she gets enough exercise and loves spending time with children then this cute dog might become your best friend!

Shih Tzu Dogs and Pomeranians

I’ve heard that miniature pinschers look just like Pomeranians, so I was wondering if there’s any difference between these two dog breeds? And why do people say that Shih tzus resemble Pomeranians?

What is the difference between a pomeranian and a Shih Tzu?

Well, there’s definitely a resemblance between these two breeds.

Some people even think that Pomeranians and Shih Tzus are related – they’re not, of course! Shih Tzus were bred as companions for noblemen in China while Pomeranians were bred to catch rats and rabbits on farms back in the day.

Pomeranians and Shih Tzus: What’s the Difference?

As I said above, neither of these dog breeds is related to the other which means they have different characteristics that make them stand out from each other. While Shih tzus look very cute because their face is almost flat and they have big eyes, Pomeranians look like foxes because of their pointy ears and long fur.

Pomeranians are also taller than Shih Tzus (but their size can vary depending on the dog). One interesting thing I noticed is that poms usually wear a horseshoe-shaped collar while Shih Tzus might not always wear it; this doesn’t change the fact that these two breeds are very cute though!
