You can’t get an Axolotl at the store. The only way you can get one is to buy them from someone who breeds them or if your parents, grandparents or other family members have some they’ll give one to you.
There are many different types of axolotls but there are three main colors so everyone wants their own favorite color when getting a new pet. Those are golden, white, and black-mottled.
Other colors include tiger marked, leucistic ( pure white), wild type (natural), albino, violet, red tiger, silver striped opal, telescope eyes and several others which makes every owner in love with his/her pet even though any shopkeeper will tell you that none of those colors are for sale.
Now you might be wondering where to get one from? Well, there are two main places to find axolotls. The first one is by going on the Internet and doing a Google search for your local pet shop which might have them or if they don’t call around to different shops until you find someone who has them in stock.

The other place is to buy buying an axolotl from somebody who breeds them such as yourself because then you can breed your own pets that way instead of getting someone else axolotl then your axolotl will always be unique and special because it’s yours and nobody else’s therefor not many people will own the same kind so no two axolotls will look exactly the same.
LifeSpan of Axolotl
None of those places are easy but you don’t have to worry because finding an axolotl isn’t hard at all. Just remember that they can live up to 3 years or more depending on what kind of care it gets and you’ll never run into any problems with your axolotl dying which is a big relief because no one wants their pet to be sick so giving it good food and making sure it stays healthy and happy is very important for its survival and if you do that then you can expect a long lasting friendship between yourself and your new pet.
How can I get an axolotl?
The only way to get an Axolotl is either you buy one from a shop or your parents, grandparents, etc give you one if they have some from breeding them at home. You don’t see many people selling them because they are not very popular pets but that doesn’t stop you from trying. Just remember that the more personal attention and care they receive the happier it will be as well as longer-living which is always a plus in my book.
What do axolotls eat?
Axolotls eat pellets meant for water fish along with blood worms and brine shrimp which isn’t much but it is still enough to keep them happy and healthy.
Can axolotls live with fish?
Axolotls do not like living with fish because they will eat them and that will lead into an unhappy axolotl who’s now dead from being eaten by a pet you thought you could trust and forget about the fact that if your pet dies then nobody would want an axolotl anymore since they are extremely hard to find unless you sold yours for a lot of money or bred one yourself which means more profits in your pockets. Remember this: Axolots can make great pets but only if you love them for who they are not what they can bring to the table.
How big do axolotls get?
Axolotls will never grow as large as a regular sized salamander because they don’t mature into adulthood unlike most other amphibians who go from being tadpoles, larva, and adults which means that you have to watch out for them because if they escape then there is a chance that they could breed with your local frogs, newts, bullfrogs, etc. But if this happens then congratulations you just created a brand new species which is probably going to be introduced into the wild for an experiment no one wants to see happen especially not you.
Can axolotls live in cold water?
Axolotls can survive short periods of time in water that is frozen but not for very long and they will most likely die in the process of escaping it.
How many eggs does an axolotl lay?
Usually you will get about 10-20 baby axolotls after a few months of breeding one which comes out to around 2-3 every month if you take good care of them. But this can vary depending on what kind of food you give it since some foods make them more fertile than others do at a faster rate which is definitely something to keep track of if you want your pet to breed more often but if you don’t then its fine too because all of these babies need love and attention from their mommy and daddy so enjoy having a bunch of new family members.
Can axolotls live in both cold and warm water?
Axolotls can live in either cold or warm water but like all other amphibians, they tend to enjoy it when the temperature is slightly warmer than what you would think its okay at which tends to be around 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit if not higher sometimes depending on who you ask otherwise known as room temperature.
How long do axolotls live?
An average lifespan for an Axolotl is about 10 years old unless taken care of extremely well which means that your pet may even die before it reaches adulthood because taking care of them isn’t easy especially since most people think it only requires food, water, and light when in reality it takes a lot more attention to provide the proper amount of care needed.
With what kinds of food can you feed an axolotl?
Axolotls enjoy eating bloodworms and brine shrimp along with most other kinds of food that is meant for fish since they don’t have stomachs like humans or most vertebrates do which means they can eat all types of foods as long as it won’t kill them on the spot by making them sick.
How many babies does an axolotl give birth to?
On average you will get 10-20 baby axolotls after laying eggs for a few months and this will continue until your pet dies due to old age, predation, or having one of their young eat them. For the past 2-3 years me and my brother have been breeding axolotls in order to make more money for ourselves but this is definitely not something that everyone can do since it takes a lot of time, effort, love ,and trust.
Is breeding axolotls legal?
No, its not because you are crossing two different species which means that it could create an entirely new species that will most likely be introduced into the wild for other experiments but if this happens then congratulations you just created an entirely new branch on the tree of life for animals who are out there somewhere waiting to be discovered by humans so have fun with your pet because I sure did when I had one.
Where can you get an axolotl?
If you live in a state that allows both snakes and lizards to be sold than it shouldn’t be too hard to find an axolotl but make sure the place doesn’t overcharge for them because I had someone try to sell me on of these creatures for $1000 when they could’ve got more like $30-$40 max if they were selling them in bulk since most people don’t want axolotls as pets due to having such a short lifespan with most only living up to 5-10 years which is almost nothing even by human standards otherwise known as dog years.
How much do axolotls cost?
The amount of money you will need to spend on an axolotl depends on who you are getting it from since most people like to make a profit off of these things if they can but the most you should pay for one is $40 or less unless its in bulk which most stores do not sell them in.
What kind of habitats do axolotls come from?
Axolotls come from Mexico, more specifically Xochimilco which is the only place that has them naturally outside of laboratories and they were once considered extinct before being rediscovered by science after their bodies were found lying around everywhere after some severe flooding occurred. 17. Do axolotls have eyes? Axolotls have eyes but they aren’t usually open because they are mostly aquatic creatures who usually only come out of the water when they are laying eggs or being fed so don’t be surprised if you have an axolotl and it doesn’t open its eyes much.
What is the size of an axolotl?
Axolotls can grow to about 10 inches long which means that most breeds won’t get larger than this but if you want a big one then you should look into getting some kind of salamander since they are bigger then your average axolotl even though there isn’t really much of a difference between them expect for having legs instead of cute little feet like their fully aquatic counterpart meaning that although they walk around on land sometimes you can still find them in the water most of the times.
Where can you keep an axolotl?
You should be able to keep your pet in any kind of container that has a lid on it since these creatures usually escape artists who love to get out of their tanks and explore the world around them but make sure its no less than 10 gallons or else your pet will die due to drowning once all of the oxygen runs out. Make sure you don’t buy one if you live in a small apartment because they are very loud when they are on land which means that listening to them do normal activities might drive someone insane.
